Keeping a medical ship mission-ready in Papua New Guinea
YWAM Medical Ships runs MV YWAM PNG, bringing medical outreach to remote communities along Papua New Guinea’s rivers and coastline with a multi-national, largely volunteer crew. Marad helps that crew keep the ship itself ready for the next outreach.
The mission
Most recently, that outreach has taken the ship along the Bamu River in Western Province. Crew rotate on and off between trips, so the people aboard for one outreach are often different from the last.
How Marad helps
With crew turning over between trips, keeping maintenance knowledge in one place rather than in people’s heads matters more than usual. Marad gives the ship a shared record of maintenance history, upcoming work, and spare parts, so continuity of care for the vessel does not depend on any one person still being aboard.
That record covers planning present and future maintenance, and tracking and ordering the spare parts and replacement stock the ship needs to stay ready for its next outreach.
